Building in the face of extreme weather
Tait Systems New Zealand (TSNZ) is delivering the Public Safety Network Land Mobile Radio (LMR) network to Next Generation Critical Communications (NGCC). The LMR is a critical part of the New Zealand Government’s new Public Safety Network (PSN). Work to commission the network is underway across the country, with the delivery of the network beginning in Canterbury, Auckland, and Wellington.
As TSNZ teams, contractors, and vendors continue to build out the network, images of mid-winter weather in the South Island highlight the conditions they can sometimes face.
Snow, wind, and rain can complicate the build process. However, TSNZ teams, equipped with PPE and the necessary skills, can work in rough weather, continuing operations while it is still safe to do so.

“We're often working in adverse conditions in remote areas across the country - it's part and parcel of the work we do,” says Grant Wright, Regional Operations Manager at Downer, one of TSNZ’s subcontractors working on site builds for the LMR.
“While this means working at times in challenging environments and weather, we're proud to be part of the Land Mobile Radio network project, supporting our emergency services and keeping communities safe.”
TSNZ CEO John Proctor also acknowledges the hard work that goes into site builds, noting that teams are out in the elements across the south.
“I have immense pride in the work ethic and determination of our build and testing teams. It’s not always easy to work remotely, especially when the weather turns.
“They do everything they can to push forward, understanding that health and safety are always paramount. That balance and commitment are really what make them invaluable partners on this project.”
The images below show the difference that just one day can make to the terrain of a remote site.

TSNZ is committed to the health, safety, and well-being of staff, including our employees, contractors, and visitors. TSNZ takes extra precautions during challenging weather conditions, conducting safety assessments and proceeding with operations only when it is safe to do so.
